September 2015 Highlights

Where did September go?

It’s always very full on starting a new term and getting back into the routine.

Following the major flORRing work over the holidays the last carpet tile was laid and work signed off on the very last day of the holidays. 8 classrooms had huge disruption and on Tuesday 1st September, 8 teachers walked into their classrooms to be greeted by a pile of furniture and umpteen packing crates. This seemed an impossible task to unpack 200 crates and set up eight rooms ready for the children arriving the following day. Every member of staff was deployed from the split site to these eight classrooms to help unpack. Seven hours later you would never have known there had ever been any building work.

Although there hasn’t been much of an Indian Summer during September, I’ve still managed to get into the garden and prepare it for Autumn and winter.

I do love Autumn, especially since my birthday falls in October. It’s a wonderful time preparing for winter. I love the change in weather, leaves falling from the trees as well as the smells when cooking for the up and coming seasonal events.

Mincemeat made, Rumtopf macerating and chicken Rogan Josh for the freezer…..

I’ve always followed my Grandma’s recipe for mincemeat and it doesn’t contain any suet. It’s pretty much a lot of luxury fruit with extra cranberries soaked in cinnamon, nutmeg and a cocktail of whiskey, sherry, brandy and rum. It will sit for a couple of months now to infuse all the flavours before turning into these – last year’s mince pies…..

The spiraliser made an appearance with courgette linguini and spicy turkey mince. Whilst using up items in the fridge, baked eggs were the final result.

I’m a great fan of angels and probably have at least 30 all over my home made from wood, glass, jute and crystal. My newest additions are a set of twinkly lights….

My sofa has always been a focal point as well as a talking point. However, a new addition is being handmade and will arrive in a couple of weeks….

As September draws to a close, I look forward to October and the excitement as a new pair of heels is released by Irregualr Choice – release date is my birthday. How apt…..

Roll on October! Not only does my birthday fall on Mischief Night which will see my page of the teacher family holiday calendar on display………

But we shall also have this day……….
